Anger, Resentment and Forgiveness

Working through long-held anger and resentment toward a path of genuine, unforced forgiveness, on your own timeline.

Understanding it

Anger is often described as a secondary emotion, arising to protect something more vulnerable underneath: hurt, fear, betrayal, or a violated sense of fairness. When anger is held for a long time, especially toward someone who caused real harm, it frequently persists because the underlying pain was never fully acknowledged, either by the person who caused it or by the one carrying it.

When to reach for more support

If old anger includes thoughts of harming yourself or someone else, or if the original harm involved abuse that remains unresolved or ongoing, please contact 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or local support services, or call 911 if there is any immediate danger.
