Grief and Loss

Grief is love with nowhere to go. Understand its waves and find ways to carry loss while still living your life.

Understanding it

Grief is not a single emotion but a whole-body response to loss that touches your thoughts, your sleep, your appetite, and even your immune system. When someone or something significant is gone, your brain has to reorganize its entire map of the world — one that included that person or that role. This is cognitively and physically exhausting, which is why grief often brings fatigue, brain fog, and a strange sense of unreality, as if you're moving through a dream.

When to reach for more support

If grief includes thoughts of not wanting to live, an inability to function for an extended period, or complete withdrawal from all relationships, reach out to a grief counselor or therapist, and call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) if you are having thoughts of harming yourself.
