Transitioning from Military to Civilian Life

Guidance for veterans adjusting to civilian routines, identity, and relationships after service.

Understanding it

Leaving military service means losing more than a job - it often means losing a built-in structure, clear rank and purpose, and a tight community that understood you without explanation. Civilian life, by contrast, can feel disorienting: fewer clear rules, less immediate camaraderie, and a sense that people don't quite understand the weight of what you've done or seen. It makes complete sense that this shift, even when chosen and even when going well on paper, can feel destabilizing.
