Veteran Life, Identity and Moral Injury

Deep support for veterans wrestling with identity, moral injury, and the long-term impact of service.

Understanding it

Moral injury is distinct from trauma in that it centers on conscience rather than fear - it arises when someone has participated in, witnessed, or failed to prevent an act that violates their own deeply held sense of right and wrong. Unlike a fear-based trauma response, moral injury often produces shame, guilt, and a sense of having become someone unrecognizable to oneself. This can be one of the most isolating experiences a veteran carries, because it feels less like 'something happened to me' and more like 'something in me is now broken or bad.'
